What is CRI?

What is CRI?
IRC, or color rendering index, is a standard for measuring the quality of light. More precisely, with what precision do the colors appear under a source of artificial light? So what do you need? Here are some tips to help you make the right decision to choose the right IRC for your application.

First of all, rest assured, LED is a high quality light source. Compared to some of the lights we are used to in the past, metal halides, high pressure sodium, low pressure sodium, LEDs, produce high quality light. And we defend the saying: High quality lumens = less lumens. In other words, you need less light when it is more precise.

However, lets talk about numbers. The IRC is a scale between 0 and 100. 100 is daylight, the norm of sunlight. Artificial light always tries to reproduce the quality of the sunlight.

IRC affects how colors are represented in light. More specifically, it really affects the red color. Looking at a bowl of CRI 70 gum balls and the same bowl under CRI 90. For most, it's hard to tell the difference as long as you do not focus on red gums. Under CRI 70, the red is dull and grayer compared to the sharpness of the red under CRI 90.

And typically, the CRI diodes 90 are more expensive than the CRI 70 diodes.

So, what do you really need?

1. Retail sales
If you are a store like GAP or a car dealership, you want a high color rendering index lighting. Bright colors mean that the product leaves the ground. So it makes sense to invest in high quality, high noise lighting. Think 90+ CRI.

2. Factories and warehouses
The bright areas are probably more important than the correct representation of the red color, unless your production area requires quality assurance stations where color control is important. In most cases (99% of the time), you can get by with the 70+ CRI standard. The standard CRI for most of the berries we sell are 70-75.

3. schools
The majority of schools can use the 70 CRI standard. Classrooms, hallways, gyms are all candidates, unless the gym is a video production site. If you have an arts and crafts room, you can also consider a higher CRI value.

Conclusion
For the most part, 70+ IRC is fine. There are exceptions, so if you do not know what you should have for your location, ask us.
